Simultaneous measurement of Airborne coherent Doppler LIDAR observability and aerosol particle back scattering coefficient in the sky

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page) 
(in English) Coherent Doppler LIDAR (LIght Detection And Ranging) measures the wind speed by using a scattered light from aerosol particles. Therefore, observation performance of the LIDAR is dependent on the backscattering coefficient of aerosol particles. The LIDAR and an optical particle counter (OPC) were installed on a small jet plane, the wind speed and particle number concentration were measured simultaneously at various altitude.
We confirmed that there is a correlation between observation range of the LIDAR and aerosol particle back scattering coefficient.
