Authors have proposed Stepped Multiple Frequency Modulation which can achieve both a high range resolution and a long-range detection performance by a narrow receiver bandwidth compared to transmitting bandwidth. In recent years, the legal system for short range radar has been changed for use of the ultra-wide bandwidth of 4 GHz in 79 GHz band. The advantage of this method itself must be more remarkable for use of the ultra-wide bandwidth. On the other hand, it will suffer from the deterioration of the detectable velocity accompanied by expansion of transmission bandwidth, since it adopts the method of switching the frequencies in time-division. In the case of use of 4GHz bandwidth, we will also face the range ambiguity problem, since the frequency steps also must be sparse for keeping the number of pulse repetitions. In this article, we propose the radar modulation/demodulation method based on stepped multiple frequency radar which is composed of random frequency step and Recursive Signal Subtraction Frequency Estimation. We also show that the proposed method can obtain the range resolution corresponding ultra-wideband without ambiguity in both velocity and range directions. |
