| (in English) | The effectiveness of health information technology depends on its capability to enable sharing and interpreting data in an intelligible way. Due to the multiplicity (big data) and the emerging of new types of health data, achieving interoperability among different systems turns into a challenging task. One of the major questions is aggregating the social determinants of health data which are recognized significant in today’s healthcare system. Moreover, deciding among the existing data standards can be seen as a key factor to enable health data interoperability. The study proposes an extensible approach to represent social data in a standardized and consistent format. We advocate using HL7 (Health Level 7) FHIR (Fast Health Interoperability Resources) to capture social determinants of health and RESTful API to communicate with existing systems. HL7 FHIR is recognized as the most comprehensive standard to build a high-level of interoperability. Our proposed approach includes representing social data in the form of questions-answers and map them into FHIR resources. We rely on the usefulness of our system as it ensures the interoperability of social determinants of health (SDH) between different systems in a human readable way. To evaluate the overall mapping specifications, we executed CRUD (Create, Read, Update, Delete) operations in existing FHIR servers to manipulate the created resources. | |
