IEEE 802.11af was standardized in 2013 as a WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) system operated at TVWS (TV White-spaces). Along with the standardization, NICT has developed various radio devices such as a high-power device and a dongle-type compact device and propelled demonstration experiments in a real field toward commercialization. Meanwhile, these devices support only a single channel operation with a channel bandwidth of 6 MHz, and thus, its throughput perfor-mance is inferior to the commercialized WLAN system with a channel bandwidth of 20 MHz. In this study, we prototype a new device that implements the channel aggregation (CA) mode defined as an optional function in the IEEE 802.11af stand-ard to improve the throughput. In addition, radio characteristics and throughput performance of the prototype are also evalu-ated to confirm the feasibility of CA. |
