In the wireless power transmission system, efficiency improvement of the coupler is being studied for improving entire transmission efficiency. However, many of the studies optimize only the efficiency of the coupler alone. In many cases, a matching circuit is required for the coupler. The element power loss of the matching circuit depends on the impedance of the coupler. To improve the transmission efficiency, the shape of the coupler should be best designed by simultaneously taking into account the transmission efficiency of the coupler itself and that of the matching circuit. This report shows a general-purpose criterion for high efficiency coupler design. We use the theoretical maximum transmission efficiency stemming from the kQ product that works for any coupling scheme. Also, for the matching circuit, we employ the theoretical upper bound of power efficiency that works for configuration of the matching circuit. The theoretical transmission efficiency calculated from these two is used as a criterion, and its efficacy is confirmed by simulation. |
