Non-contacting Remote Inspection Technique for Ferromagnetic Pipes using High-temperature Superconductor SQUID and Magnetostriction-based Ultrasonic Guided Waves

(in English) We have been developing non-contacting inspection technique for pipes using magnetostriction-based ultrasonic guided wave and high temperature superconductor (HTS) superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID). Magnetization method to transceive T (0, 1) mode guided waves on Ni thin pipe was investigated by both electromagnetic field simulator and experiment utilizing magnetostriction and HTS-SQUID gradiometer. In the both cases, a pair of electromagnets sandwiching a Ni pipe was used to magnetize the pipe, while rotating the pipe between the electromagnets. The both studies demonstrated that the magnetization method enabled us to magnetize the Ni pipe roughly uniformly in the whole circumference and also generate T (0, 1) mode guided waves propagating at about 3000 mm/ms on the Ni pipe.
