Network Function Virtualisation(NFV) enhances performance of virtualized network function instance(VNFI) in virtualized networks by relocating VNFIs according to traffic load of them. Relocation of a VNFI is achieved by synchronizing whole data of the VNFI and entails suspension of the VNFI, which causes bursty interruption of flows the VNFI has processed. Live migration is a relocation procedure which enable to reduce the suspenction
time. However, when the VNFI is processing large amount of traffic and needs to be relocated to a low-loaded server, the reduction in live migration does not work properly. As a result, all of the flows incur longer butsty drop irrelevant
to requirement of the flows, especially in terms of allowable bursty drop time. The extension of the suspension time results in degradation of quality of experience for customers of multimedia contents delivery services, especially when in which contents have scenes where subjects are moving quickly.
We propose priority control in terms of allowed interruption time of flows during relocation of a VNFI. Our method reduces the amount of flows input to the VNFI in relocation processes in order to exploit a procedure in Live Migration technology for mitigating suspension of the instance. The reduction is achieved by selecting input flows for the instance based on requirement of the flows, especially in terms of allowed interruption time. |
