We have proposed an optical fiber temperature sensing system using a long-period fiber grating (LPFG) and optical transceivers for Ethernet. A low-cost temperature sensing system can be realized because inexpensive Ethernet optical transceivers are used instead of a broadband light source and an optical spectrum analyzer. In this research, we experimentally clarify the LPFG fabrication parameters suitable for the proposed system by taking into account sensing temperature range, characteristics of optical transceiver for Ethernet, optical loss spectrum of LPFG and its temperature characteristics. |
