Relationship between the size of the tactile maps and the target search time -- With sighted people as the participants --

(in English) To investigate the effect of changing the tactile map size on the target search time, we conducted a tactile exploration experiment. Seven sighted people participated in the experiment. Five sizes, A5, B5, A4, B4, and A3 of tactile maps were used as the stimulus. As the result, it was found that the target search time increased as the tactile map became large. We classified the movements of the hand movements into three types: parallel sweep, zigzag, and spiral. Among them, parallel movements were most frequently used. The target detection errors tended to increase as tactile maps became large.
