Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Many clinical results on low intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) therapy have been reported, including the success rate of treatment due to the bone site. However, the initial mechanism of bone fracture healing by the low intensity pulsed ultrasound technique has not been elucidated yet. One of the mechanisms is the piezoelectric phenomenon that occurs when stress is applied to bone. Therefore, we have fabricated ultrasound transducers using bovine cortical bone (bone transducers) to evaluate the piezoelectricity of bone in the MHz range quantitatively, and have studied the ultrasonically induced electrical potentials in bone. In this report, we experimentally studied the dependence of ultrasonically induced electrical potentials on the bone site. As a result, we found that there was a clear site dependence of induced electric potentials.
