Depression is a disease that causes social loss next to cancer. However, pathology of depression remains unclear compared with cancer mostly due to the heterogeneity.
Depression can be broken into subtypes based on the symptoms. A typical one is known as ``melancholic depression,'' characterized by negative feelings and anhedonia. On the other hand, ``atypical depression'' are increasing in recent years, whose symptoms are different from typical depression. In this study, we explored a possibility that different subtypes might be associated with morphological difference of the brain using voxel based morphometry analysis of magnetic resonance imaging. |
