This paper investigates a packet retransmission scheme appropriate for an interleave division multiple access (IDMA)-based random access in order to support massive machine-type communications (mMTC) in the fifth generation mobile communication system. A conventional major approach to the packet retransmission in the random access-based system is to apply a random retransmission time back-off for each terminal by preparing multiple time-slot window to resolve the packet collision in probabilistic manner. However, a proactive packet-collision avoidance effect between the new packet(s) and retransmission packet(s) is not obtained in this approach. The proposed method is established by introducing two specific features to the conventional packet retransmission method in order to reduce the packet collision between the new packets and retransmission packets. The first feature is that the base station probabilistically prepares the time-frequency slot which is exclusively used for packet retransmission. The second feature is that respective terminals having retransmit packet use the defined time-frequency slot exclusively used for packet retransmission in probabilistic manner. The proposed method can proactively reduce the frequency of the packet collision between the new packets and retransmission packets so that the IDMA-receiver can successfully decode the set of simultaneously transmitted packets. We show the effectiveness of the proposed method quantitatively by using the computer simulation. |
