Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) We propose surface plasmon resonance(SPR) waveguide sensors based on the Kretschmann and Otto configurations in the THz region.
First, we consider the Kretschmann-type SPR waveguide sensor.
The sensor structure is reduced to a three-layer model, and the reflectance is estimated using the Fresnel equation.
The angle of incidence of the waveguide is determined to be rm 45$^circ$, where the reflectance becomes minimum.
Next, we calculate the SPR response of the waveguide sensor using the finite-difference time-domain method.
It is shown that the absorption peak of the SPR occurs at a frequency being almost the same as that predicted by the three-layer model.
In addition, we investigate the SPR response with respect to temperature changes.
The possibility of detecting water temperature is shown with high sensitivity.
We further consider the Otto-type SPR waveguide sensor in the same way.
The Otto-type sensor is found to show a sharp and stable SPR response, when compared to the Kretschmann-type one.
