Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Recently, wireless communication using Orbital Angular Momentum (OAM) has drawn much attention as an emerging candidate of 5G evolution and beyond technology. OAM is a physical property of electro-magnetic waves that are characterized by a helical phase front in the propagation direction. Since the characteristic can be used to create multiple orthogonal channels, wireless communication using OAM can increase radio spectrum efficiency and expand the capacity of the scarce radio spectrum. We are researching and developing technology with the aim of achieving terabit-class wireless transmission that realizes the next-generation of 5G. In particular, we are engaged in such OAM multiplexing transmission technology utilizing OAM of electromagnetic waves as a new spatial multiplexing technology capable of transmitting multiple radio waves at the same time using the same frequency band. In the experiment of OAM multiplexing transmission using the 28 GHz band, we successfully demonstrated the world's first 100 Gbit/s wireless transmission. This talk introduces details of this technology. Also, we introduce recently conducted our outdoor experiments of OAM multiplexing transmission using 28 GHz band. At the same time, we will discuss the possibility and challenges toward long distance high capacity wireless communication using OAM technology.
