We propose a user location estimation method in which two reference points and wireless terminals owned by students cooperate with each other to estimate the positions of all terminals, assuming a classroom environment.
In general indoor location estimation, the distance between terminals is estimated using received signal strength (RSS) of wireless signal. However, the estimation accuracy is greatly reduced due to the influence of multipath fading caused by obstacles. In addition, at least three reference points are required to estimate positions by trilateration.
In this paper, we assume the classroom environment where the distances between terminals do not change, and estimate the sitting position of the students. The proposed method realizes position estimation using only two reference points whose positions are known by gradually limiting the range of wireless terminals estimated by the distance between terminals.
The simulation results showed that the positioning accuracy of the proposed method improves with the increase of the number of students in the classroom. |
