An Approximation of Average Latency for Constant Number Data Aggregation and Adaptive Control Based on Its Characteristics

(in English) To realize latency-critical IoT applications, latency should be minimized at IoT gateways that aggregate spatially distributed sensor data and transmit the aggregated-data over the Internet.

In this paper, we derive the Laplace-Stieltjes transform and approximated average of the stationary distribution of the latency in the IoT gateway for a constant number data aggregation scheme, then apply it to an adaptive optimal control when a time variation exists in the data arrival rate. Based on our approximation analysis of the average latency, we derive an estimation formula for the optimal aggregation number according to an arrival rate. We apply the formula to an adaptive control for optimizing the aggregation number when a time variation exists in the data arrival rate. The transient traffic characteristics, that absorb traffic fluctuations, thereby realize the stable optimal latency, were clarified by simulation.
