Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) For sensory hearing loss, which is difficult to treat medically, a hearing aid is commonly used to assist the hearing function. However, it is usually necessary to adjust the degree of amplification to individual deaf persons through hearing with each of them because it is difficult to sufficiently consider the auditory characteristics of the individual deaf persons. In this paper, we propose a speech modification method using a hearing impairment simulator to improve speech intelligibility in hearing aids.In the proposed method, the mel-log spectrum approximation (MLSA) filter for speech modification is designed so as to compensate hearing impaired characteristics modeled by the hearing impairment simulator. As the result of an experimental evaluation, it is observed that 1) the proposed method can significantly improve sound quality alghough it reduces a power correction effect, 2) the power correction effect can be improved by also using the dynamic range compresseion, and 3) speech intelligibility can be further improved by using a filtering weight to adjust a balance between the sound quality improvement effect and the power correction effect.
