Symbol mappings in two-dimensional Euclidean signal space, such as PSK and QAM, have a limitation of possible distance between symbols under the condition of a constant power per bit. Thus, symbol mapping methods in three-dimensional space are proposed. In this paper, we propose new modulation schemes in four-dimensional Euclidean space under the condition that the number of bits per dimension is equal to 1. The proposed symbol constellation has twisted and crushed tesseract in four-dimensional space and can extend the minimum distance in comparison with QPSK. By theoretical analysis based on the union bound and computer simulations, we show that the proposed symbol mapper can reduce the required $E_{b}/N_{0}$ by more than 0.45 dB at $10^{-7}$ of the BER. |
