Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Measuring the tens of microns’ roughness on the luminal surface of the arterial wall is expected to realize an extremely early diagnosis of arteriosclerosis. In our previous study, the method for measuring micron-order surface roughness without being affected by heterogeneous regions in sound velocity between the carotid artery and the skin was proposed. In this method, the surface roughness is measured by using the movement of the carotid artery approximately 1 mm in the longitudinal direction due to pulsation. However, the carotid artery wall also moves approximately 500 μm in the radial direction due to pulsation. In this paper, we proposed a method of improving the estimation accuracy of luminal surface roughness of carotid artery by locally estimating and removing radial displacement due to pulsation. The usefulness of our proposed method was indicated by basic experiments using phantoms and in vivo experiments on human carotid arteries.
