A substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) is a low loss transmission line which is suitable to form transmission lines in the multi-layer dielectric substrate in the millimeter wave band. To feed each layer of SIW from the hollow waveguide, a broadband transition between the hollow waveguide and the SIW in the multi-layer dielectric substrate is essential. We have developed a hollow waveguide to SIW transition in a single-layer dielectric substrate. In this study, back-short and window structures are proposed for impedance matching. We designed the hollow waveguide to substrate integrated waveguide transition in multi-layer dielectric substrate proposed and evaluated the performance by electromagnetic simulation.
