This paper presents the characteristics of the MAC layer protocol of PC5-based Cellular-V2X mode 4 for Crash Warning Application. Mode 4 is an infrastructure-less protocol, and instead of negotiations with base stations, the MAC layer protocol is a new random access called Sensing-based Semi-Persistent Scheduling (SPS). In Sensing-based SPS, each node estimates interference of all slots to select a slot of low interference. However, as the number of nodes increases, the estimation mechanism may incorrectly infer interference, and as a result, individual node frequently selects a bad slot to use. Evaluation results showed that a part of estimation mechanism of the current Sensing-based SPS was not almost effective to increase the number of accommodated nodes compared to a random selection without the estimation mechanism. |
