The fifth-generation mobile system (5G) is expected to be utilized as a communication infrastructure for a variety of emerging various applications. Such mobile communication systems will be realized by microcell operators with specific and flexible deployment according to communication performance and use case in cooperation with cellular operators with wide coverage. Japanese government launched a working group on local 5G, which represents specific 5G services deployed by microcell operators. This paper introduces the status of NICT's R&D on cooperative 5G networks among cellular and microcell operators and reports its feasibility using original prototype systems. |
