As a scheme to accommodate a large number of users efficiently, the grant-free non-orthogonal multiple
access (GF-NOMA) based on approximate message passing with multiple vectors, has been proposed. Although this scheme can attain superior performance by jointly performing active user detection (AUD), channel estimation, and data detection, its performance has not been yet analyzed theoretically. Besides, there exists a gap between its symbol error rate (SER) performance and the one with the ideal knowledge on active users. In this paper, we analyze the performance of AUD by deriving the distribution of the desired signals and also propose a new threshold design for the AUD. Computer simulations confirm that the SER performance of the GF-NOMA with the designed threshold is comparable with the one with the ideal knowledge on active users. |
