Influence of ultrasonic irradiation on temperature in oil

(in English) The temperature rise produced by ultrasound at 2.5 MHz in oil and water in a test tube has been investigated experimentally. A test tube having a round bottom or a flat bottom filled with oil and water in various ratios, which were separated from each other into the top and bottom respectively in the test tube, was irradiated by ultrasound at 2.5 kHz from the bottom of the test tube. Also, the sound pressure distribution in the test tube was simulated by a finite element method (FEM) analysis. The results show that the temperature rise increases as the ratio of oil to water increases. The temperature rise in the flat-bottom test tube is larger than that in the round-bottom test tube. It is probably because the sound pressure amplitude in the flat-bottom test tube is larger than that in the round-bottom test tube due to the larger transmitted ultrasonic wave from the flat bottom. The temperature of the oil increased up to above 60 ℃ during about 5 min sonication for 20 mL water and 5 mL oil in the flat-bottom test tube.
