Multifunctional CRLH Transmission Line Stubs for Compact Class-E/Inverse-Class-E Power Amplifiers

(in English) This report presents CRLH transmission line (TL) stubs for realizing compact high-efficiency class-E / inverse class-E power amplifiers (PAs). The CRLH TL stubs have capabilities of harmonics tuning, DC biasing and FET parasitic-capacitance compensation. The frequency response of the CRLH TL stubs can be controlled arbitrarily by modifying the dispersion diagram of the stub line. The feature leads to significant miniaturization of the length of the stub line as well as the main RF signal line comprising the harmonic tuning circuit (HTC) for class-E amplifier. As for the HTC for inverse class-E amplifier, it is shown that the inductor of the CRLH TL stub can be used to compensate the FET parasitic capacitance. The fabricated 2-GHz Class-E GaN HEMT PA demonstrated power performance of 38.9 dBm output power, 78.3% drain efficiency, 73.0% power-added efficiency.
