Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Peer-to-peer-based video delivery (P2PTV) applications exchange video data among peers and can thus reduce the server load. The number of connected peers and the communication throughput in P2PTV would change depending on the popularity of video contents. Understanding the characteristics of P2PTV traffic is therefore an important issue from the viewpoint of network management. Our previous studies classified and analyzed video traffic obtained in viewing P2PTV on a per content basis. However, many feature values are required for the traffic analysis because P2PTV traffic is expressed by various indicators such as the number of connected peers and the throughput: The process of the analysis would become much complex. We propose a simple representation method for such complex P2PTV traffic. In the proposed method, we first divide per-content traffic into short-time data pieces and then try to find the unit traffic patterns from them by a clustering method that is one of machine learning. We successfully extracted several unit traffic patterns and analyzed their appearance for each content using 100 P2PTV traffic data. As a result, P2PTV traffic can be simply represented by the combination of several types of the unit traffic.
