[Special Talk] Electromagnetic Shielding of Conductive Polymer Combined Fabric in Microwave Band and Millimeter-Wave Band

(in English) There are increasing perception and awareness of electromagnetic interference threats to human bodies and electronic devices. Electro-conductive fabrics can protect them by covering/overlapping them. We have proposed that conductive polymer combined fabrics which is used for flexible electrodes in vivo can be used for electromagnetic shielding materials. While conductive fabrics made from metal shield by reflection, conductive polymer combined fabrics shield probably by absorption. We have measured electromagnetic shielding characteristics of conductive polymer combined fabrics in 1-10 GHz and 40 -60 GHz. In this paper, we have measured the electromagnetic shielding effect of three kinds of conductive polymer combined fabrics in 1-60 GHz (microwave band and millimeter-wave band). We confirmed that shielding effect of knitted fabrics made from conductive Washi fiber was higher as frequency was higher in 1-10 GHz, and was roughly constant in 10-60 GHz. We estimate the influence of fabrics loss tangent on shielding effect by electromagnetic simulation. In this simulation, we confirm that shielding effect is higher as loss tangent is higher. When loss tangent is 1.5, simulation result and measured result are the similar characteristics.
