Peer-to-peer-based video streaming (P2PTV) in which user terminals (peers) directly communicate with each other has attracted attention due to the increase of popularity of video distribution services. Since the generated traffic is very different from the client/server model, it is necessary to understand the characteristics of P2PTV traffic for the network design and management. In our previous studies, we have obtained P2PTV traffic in watching each video content for a long time and analyzed the characteristics by classifying the obtained traffic data. However, the indices such as the number of peers and throughput fluctuate even during content viewing since the users dynamically join or leave the services. we then proposed a time-series P2PTV traffic classification method, but the extracted unit traffic is dependent on the content and not related to other unit traffic that appeared in other contents. In this paper, therefore, we propose a two-stage clustering method in order to extract common unit traffic independent of the contents. The proposed method first performs the first-stage unit traffic clustering on each video content, then creates the feature elements of the obtained clusters, and finally performs the second-stage clustering again. We also analyze traffic characteristics from the classification results of 100 P2PTV traffic data and evaluate the classification accuracy comparing with one-stage clustering. |
