High Q microcavities constitute promising platforms for generating optical Kerr combs in small footprints. To quantify the group velocity dispersion (GVD) of a microcavity, which greatly affects the characteristics of Kerr comb generation, accurate measurement of frequency dependent variations of free spectral ranges of the cavity is required. We utilize a narrow-linewidth laser source, locked to an ultra-low-expansion (ULE) cavity as a reference and transferred via optical fiber networks, to which we synchronize our mode-locked fiber comb source. By referencing this fiber comb source, we were able to characterize the GVDs of the silicon nitride based microcavities. The details of our measurement system and its performance are reported. |
