A consideration on miniaturization of a wideband ring microstrip antenna fed by an L-probe

(in English) This paper presents wideband design and miniaturization of a ring microstrip antenna (MSA) fed by an L-probe without dielectric substrates. Firstly, wideband design of the square ring MSA fed by the L-probe arranged beneath the ring patch is presented. By tuning a height and dimensions of the ring patch and the L-probe, wideband performance with approximately 46% fractional bandwidth of VSWR less than 3 can be obtained by simulation. Then, in order to miniaturize the ring MSA within a volume of a semi-sphere with a diameter of 38 mm, a shorted ring MSA with a folded geometry fed by an L-probe is designed where a height of the ring patch and the L-probe is reduced. Frequency characteristics and radiation properties of the proposed miniaturized ring MSA obtained by simulation are presented.
