Method of Conversion for Use Case Description by UML Model toward Ensuring Post-Requirement Specification Traceability

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Traceability between system requirements and the artifacts produced along the software development process helps to improve the software quality on reusability and maintainability.
UML is widely well-known modeling language and useful tool to conduct use case analysis. Generally, a use case is described interaction between a user and the system according to a template in natural language. In the next design phase, a software designer needs to analyze the use case description in natural language using the sequence diagram to assign the behaviors to appropriate classes. However, depending on the difference in his/her interpretation, leakage and errors may occur in the behavior assignment and the use case description may not realize the requirements.
This paper proposes a method to ensure traceability by automatically generating an initial sequence diagram from an activity diagram that defines not only interaction between a user and the system, but also feasibility of the use case with data modeling in a class diagram.
