Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) We investigate and compare terahertz (THz) sensors with indium antimonide (InSb) elements. THz sensors with cross-dipole, disk and sphere elements made of InSb are analyzed using the finite-difference time-domain method. The full width at half maximum (or half minimum), sensitivity, and figure of merit (FoM) are used to quantitatively evaluate the sensor performance. First, we investigate the transmittance of the sensors with respect to changes in the refractive index of the analyte. As the refractive index is increased, the peak frequency shifts to the low frequency side. This peak frequency shift leads to a possibility to detect the value of the refractive index. Next, it is shown that the FoM can be improved by adjusting the length of each element. Finally, we compare the performance of the three sensors. It is shown that the cross-dipole sensor provides a high FoM compared to the disk and sphere sensors.
