Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Recently, there is an increasing demand for satellite communication networks on a global scale. Therefore, low-Earth orbit satellite constellation that covers the entire surface of the earth by cooperation among many small satellites has attracted attention. LEO satellites consume power when communicating with a ground terminal. However, in the shade area where sunlight does not reach, these satellites must operate using battery energy only. The power consumption during these periods places a heavy load on the satellite battery and can shorten their lifetimes. The shortened life of the on-board battery causes an increase in communication cost for the satellite communication network. In this study, we apply Q-learning to the power allocation problem in satellite-to-ground communication using LEO satellites. Using this method, we can extend the lifetime of the LEO satellite battery by sharing the workload of overworked satellites with adjacent satellites with a lower load.
