A proposal for cooking asist system : Meal finder

This paper proposes a cooking assist system which is called “Meal Finder.” For the people who feels a bother with self-catering, if we remove it, it may be able to make them close to a healthy eating. For example, one does manage the food in refrigerator, and recommends appropriate meal, then we can buy just right food and we do not need to think menu for every time. In this paper, we report the outline of Meal Finder and the food recognition in refrigerator which is a function of Meal Finder. We put a small camera in refrigerator to recorder the motion of food with human hands. The food recognition consists of three steps: the detection of moving objects, the extraction of the region of interest (ROI) from moving objects and the recognition of ROI. We apply the background substitution method with the detection of motion objects, utilize convexity defects to extract ROI and image recognition using VGG16 with fine-tuning for food identification. Through several experiments, we investigated the accuracy of our food region extraction algorithm and food recognition using DNN with fine-tuning based on VGG16. As a result, we found that the motion of hand makes bad affect to extract food region and it is difficult to judge for food s resembleing one another. |
