Failure-Robust Communication Path Switching for Mobile IoT Devices

(in English) In the existing EPC (Evolved Packet Core) mechanism, if a failure occurs in the EPC of the contracted communication carrier, the devices connected to the EPC cannot communicate.
In IoT devices, in addition to the large number of installations, the surrounding network environment differs depending on the installation location.
Therefore, it is necessary to change the settings according to the network environment.
If it is a mobile phone, the user can manually switch to wireless LAN (Wi-Fi) and communicate via another route.
However, unlike mobile phones, IoT devices do not have a UI that allows easy setting changes, and it is difficult to change the settings manually.
In order to solve this problem, a mechanism to automatically switch from the failed communication carrier to the EPC of another communication carrier is needed.
Therefore, we constructed an environment where multiple communication carriers can mutually query the subscriber management server when a failure occurs.
In this paper, we propose a technology to automatically switch to a route that IoT devices can communicate over using this environment, and verify its feasibility and effectiveness.
