Optical-Node Architecture for High-Capacity SDM-Based Optical Networks

(in English) Space-division multiplexing has been receiving increasing attention as a way to expand transmission capacity of an optical fiber. To introduce this method to optical-path networks, the scalability of optical cross-connect architectures is required to immensely expand the node port count. Given this background, we propose a novel optical cross-connect architecture that comprises spatially jointed wavelength-selective switches and space switches. Simulations show that the routing penalty is less than 3%. An experiment evaluates the transmission performance, where the total throughput is 2.15 Pbps.
