In semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs), when an optical signal is amplified, the frequency chirp is induced at the leading and trailing edges of the signal pulse. In particular, the peak values of blue chirp (shift to a shorter wavelength side) has low dependence on the input signal power and the data pattern. By utilizing the property, we experimentally demonstrate a 4-bit resolution of photonic digital-to-analog conversion (DAC) based on frequency chirp using a SOA and following blue-shift filtering. |
