Complexity of Colored Token Shifting on Graphs

(in English) Variations of reconfiguration problems are much of interest and important problems in theoretical computer science. The problem involves transforming feasible configurations step-by-step from one to another while keeping intermediate configurations feasible. In this paper, we study color shifting problems which are one of such graph reconfiguration problems. We define the problem as the problem of transforming an initial color token placement to a target color token placement of a give graph using two simple operations: “shifting token” and “flipping token”. We call our problem c-COLORED TOKEN SHIFTING if the reconfiguration operation is done by “shifting token” and c-COLORED TOKEN FLIPPING if it is done by “flipping token”, while the colors are chosen from {1,2,...,c}. We show 2-COLORED TOKEN SHIFTING is NP-Complete. We also present that 2-COLORED TOKEN SHIFTING on complete graphs is fixed-parameter tractable when c is the parameter and c-COLORED TOKEN FLIPPING on general graphs is solvable in O(n^3) time.
