A Filter-Technique Assisted Design of 60-GHz Band Planar Antenna with Radiation of Three Orthogonal Components

(in English) This paper proposes a new structure of 60-GHz band planar antenna having radiations of three orthogonal x, y, and z components in frequency bandwidth of 3 GHz for a millimeter-wave in-machine wireless harness communication such as robots. In this system, antennas equipped on robots are required to transmit/receive signals, regardless of directions of robot arms. To this end, the proposed antenna has two orthogonally arranged antennas, which are fed by a feeding network consisting of microstrip half-wavelength resonators with shorted ends for in-phase excitation. The proposed antenna can be efficiently designed with the assistance of filter technique using a coupling matrix. As a result, 10-dB return loss is achieved in 3-GHz bandwidth at 60-GHz band. The effectiveness of the designed antenna is verified numerically through EM simulation results of radiation and reflection characteristics.
