[Tutorial Lecture] Practical Decoupling Circuits for Two-Element Antenna Array

(in English) This paper presents two types of practical decoupling circuits for two-element antenna arrays. The first is a small circuit consisting of two series susceptances and two shunt susceptances. This circuit can not only decrease the mutual coupling but also change the excitation distribution. The excitation amplitude ratio can be controlled by the shunt susceptance on the antenna side, and the excitation phase difference can be controlled by the ratio of the two series susceptances. We show design equations and confirm that the antenna gain can be improved only by the control of the excitation amplitude ratio. The second is a circuit consisting of two directional couplers, a transmission line and a shunt resonant circuit. This circuit can greatly decrease the mutual coupling over a wideband. We show the design method and confirm the effectiveness by simulations.
