Effect of organic compounds on the growth process of cavitation bubbles
Ayaka Inui, Kota Shiba, Ken Yamamoto (Kansai Univ.) US2020-63
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Sonoluminescence (SL) during the ultrasonic irradiation of water can be used to obtain information regarding the physical and chemical properties of cavitation bubbles. In addition, SL intensity measurements under various solution conditions can provide insights into bubble dynamics, such as the growth and size of cavitation bubbles. The purpose of this study was the effect of organic compounds on the growth rate and size of bubbles is investigated by observing the initial growth process of cavitation bubbles generated when ultrasonic waves are continuously irradiated in various aqueous solutions to which organic compounds are added. As an organic compound, a surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and alcohols were added. We measured the SL intensity and the change of the liquid volume ΔV in the sample tank as an index for evaluating the size of bubbles generated during ultrasonic irradiation. The SL intensity and ΔV were different between the case where SDS was added and the case where alcohols were added.
