We review fiber-optic distributed Brillouin sensing technology, focusing on Brillouin optical correlation-domain reflectometry (BOCDR). After describing the principles of standard BOCDR, we present two configurations for its high-speed operation, referred to as phase-detected BOCDR and slope-assisted BOCDR. We also present a recently developed technique for mitigating their drawbacks (i.e., limited strain dynamic range). |
