The general requirements for the primary horn of a reflector antenna used in earth stations for satellite communications are rotationally symmetric beam, low cross-polarization components, and compact size. This paper proposes a novel horn consisting of a tapered section, a coaxial groove section, and a projection between the two sections for realizing such requirements at widely separated frequency bands. So we describe effective design procedure and optimization for lower and higher frequency bands. As a design example, we present a dual-band horn antenna with low cross-polar level less than –30 dB at both center frequencies 7.8 GHz and 26 GHz of specified two bands. |
