Transmission Performance of Wi-SUN FAN System with IEEE 802.15.4 OFDM Transmission Scheme

(in English) The Wireless Smart Ubiquitous Network Field Area Network (Wi-SUN FAN) is a wireless communication standard for the Internet of Things (IoT) in outdoor large-scale multi-hop networks. Nowadays, Frequency Shift Keying (FSK) standardized in IEEE 802.15.4 is adopted as the physical layer of the Wi-SUN FAN. However, improving the data rate of the physical layer is essential to realize expected requirements toward the next-generation IoT systems. In the previous work, we proposed a scheme for introducing the data rate enhanced FSK into the Wi-SUN FAN while suppressing the increase in the bandwidth occupied by the entire system. In this paper, we consider introducing Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM), which is a modulation method with high spectral efficiency, into the Wi-SUN FAN to improve the data rate without increasing the bandwidth. First, we evaluate the packet error rate characteristics under inter-signal interference in the transition period of the physical layer to OFDM standardized in IEEE 802.15.4 by computer simulation. Furthermore, we evaluate the transmission characteristics of the Wi-SUN FAN in the MAC layer and show that the introduction of the OFDM transmission scheme is effective for improving the transmission characteristics when frequency hopping is performed.
