| (in English) | Ethical, legal, and social issues (ELSI) of artificial intelligence (AI) and data science (DS) should be classified first into two categories: those common to advanced science and technology in general and those specific to DS. “AI," being "advanced science and technology for information and knowledge," is essentially elusive; the extension of research themes in AI is transient. DS currently resides in the central position in AI, but like pathfinding, which was once a core topic of AI but is no longer so, there is no guarantee that it will keep the hegemony. The issues of statistical methods, however, has been the core of scientific methodology. In addition, data-driven science, which applies DS to individual fields, brings impacts the ELSI issues of the applied DS areas. The findings of the philosophy and ethics of individual science should be referred. | |
