Creep recovery measurement for fragile viscoelastic fluids using electromagnetically spinning rheometry system

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The Electro-Magnetically Spinning (EMS) method is an innovative and unique technique for measuring viscosity and elasticity of fluids. Lately, an advanced rheometry system using the EMS method was developed to evaluate strictly flow curves and viscosity curves, which can lead to a spectroscopic study. As for viscoelastic properties, however, no quantitative results were reported yet. Then, we conducted the creep and recovery measurements for a viscoelastic fluid, which apparently shows fragile network structures. In the stage of applying torque, the magnitude of torque was increased gradually, so that an elastic behavior was not clearly observed. On the other hand, when the torque was released instantaneously, a reverse rotation due to elasticity was observed. The reverse motion was found to be an exponential behavior showing a characteristic viscoelastic relaxation. In this report, we introduce the measurement results of viscoelastic properties from these creep and recovery tests, and also discuss the difference with previous experimental results for similar fluids.
