Wideband Single-bit Bandpass Delta Sigma Modulator

(in English) In 5G and next-generation mobile communication systems, to achieve high-speed communication, massive multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) and carrier aggregation (CA) that use multiple transmitters have been introduced with a wideband modulation signal, which causes an increase in the size of the equipment, thereby requiring the need to reduce its size. Moreover, the mobile communication standard (3GPP) requires a modulation bandwidth of several hundred megahertz.
This paper focuses on a 1-bit band-pass delta-sigma modulation (1-bit BP-DSM), which can output the modulated signal directly from the digital components and reduce the size of the radio equipment. In previous studies, the noise transfer function (NTF) was designed to suppress quantization noise power in the transmission band, and the out-of-band gain (anti-oscillation measure) was designed indirectly by tuning the zeros and poles in the band. In this paper, an elliptic filter that can be designed not only for in-band gain but also for out-of-band gain is adopted, and an implementable block diagram of the single-bit BP-DSM is proposed. As a design result, modulation bandwidth of 400 MHz, a noise suppression bandwidth of 800 MHz, and an adjacent channel leakage power ratio of 50 dB were achieved at a center frequency of 3.6 GHz.
