| (in English) | Recently, the smartphone cameras are used more frequently as a method of capturing the text information from paper documents. When a shadow appears in the captured document image, it is difficult to detect and recognize characters because the color of the characters and the color of the shadows are similar. For this reason, many methods have been proposed to remove shadow from document image. However, these methods produce artifacts in the borders of the shadow areas, and this makes difficult to detect characters. In this paper, we propose an effective method to remove the shadows. The proposed method employs median filter to estimate background image and removes shadows. The effectiveness of the proposed method is confirmed by various experiments. | |
