In this study, we constructed a database of facial expressions of Japanese elderly people and analyzed their features using a facial expression analysis system. There have been many studies focusing on the relation between facial expressions and emotions with younger Japanese, or caucasian in wider range age presented in those studies . However, there is a possibility that Japanese elderly people show different facial expression features due to wrinkles and deterioration of facial muscles.
Therefore, we have captured facial expression videos database over 111 elderly Japanese people with eight emotions (happy, sad, fear, surprise, anger, disgust, excitement, and relax) and neutral. As a result of comparing against those of younger Japanese, there were different features due to the influence of wrinkles. |
