The generator of high-frequency oscillation (HFO) accompanied with carbachol-induced beta oscillations in rat hippocampal slices

(in English) It has been reported that high frequency oscillation (HFO) occurs in theta waves with a frequency of 8-12 Hz or with the onset of epileptic waves, but it has not yet been clarified whether HFO occurs in beta waves with a frequency of 13-30 Hz. In this report, we investigated whether HFOs are generated in carbachol-induced beta oscillations (CIBO), which occur when the acetylcholine agonist carbachol is administered to rat hippocampal slices, and examined the relationship between HFOs and beta wave components in CIBO. As a result, HFO was confirmed in CIBO. In order to investigate the generator of HFO, we measured HFO in the pyramidal cell layer and the synaptic layer of hippocampal slices. As a result, HFOs with higher power and longer duration were observed in the pyramidal cell layer than in the synaptic layer. These results suggest that the neural circuit near the cell body may be the generator of HFO. In addition, HFOs were measured in CA3-CA1 mini slices separated from the dentate gyrus region of the hippocampus, as in whole slices. These results suggest that HFOs are generated by a local neural circuit near the pyramidal cell layer independent of the input from the dentate gyrus.
